New projects at Sunset Cove in South Sulphur Unit – Cooper Lake State Park

The South Sulphur Unit at Cooper Lake State Park is in the process of a new build — a new pier in Sunset Cove.

On Friday, June 5, the staff of the Texas Parks and Wildlife at Cooper Lake State Park posted on Facebook, “PIER UPDATE! It’s getting close! The exact completion date is still unknown due to possible weather delays, but it’s looking like it should be completed sometime next month (July 2026).”

With pictures of the pier posted below, the post read, “the pier itself is almost completed, you can see the areas for accessible fishing, the bait shelf along the platform area, and the underwater lights are there, but not placed on the lakebed yet.”

According to staff, the underwater fish attractant lights will be on a timer that customers can turn on when they come out to fish after dark.

In addition, there will also be new accessible picnic tables and grills placed on freshly built pads, including a new sidewalk to the pier, and lights along the sidewalk.
